Questions about our products

Are your materials ethically sourced?

Quality and ethics are the values we treasure most. While we are perfectionists and each piece is hand crafted to the highest standards, our quality control starts right at the source, with our materials. We are very strict on sourcing our materials from ethical sources only.

Where does your gold come from?

All our gold and other noble metals are recycled. They come from numerous sources, including post-consumer products, waste, unused metal, and other products which people may sell to gold melting companies when they no longer want them.

Are your white gold items rhodium plated?

Our white gold items are not coated with rhodium since the alloy we use possesses a naturally bright white hue. Typically, rhodium plating is applied by other jewelers to cover up the gold's inherent yellowish tint, enhancing its white appearance. However, this plating is not permanent; it tends to wear off and usually needs to be reapplied every six months to a year. For those seeking the whitest option available, we recommend selecting our 18k white gold, which contains a significant amount of palladium, or opting for platinum.

Are your diamonds conflict-free?

We only work with suppliers who abide by the Kimberley Process (a standard of ethical sourcing). We only use recycled (reclaimed) and lab-grown diamonds. Products that contain reclaimed diamonds are mostly used for one-off pieces. Most of our regular designs feature cultivated diamonds.

Will my diamonds and sapphires come certified?

Pieces that come with GIA certificates for diamond centre stones are indicated under the product’s description. All our cultivated focal diamonds come with IGI certification, even when not indicated in product description.

Accent stones, salt and pepper diamonds or rustic diamonds are not subject to standard certification criteria and do not come with certifications.

Coloured gemstones such as sapphires can be graded by certifying bodies. Pieces that come with certificates for are indicated under the product’s description. Coloured gemstones are generally only certified on very very fine quality and larger stones and the cost reflects that. It’s not commonly seen for most coloured gemstones, and information provided on the certificate is more limited and different than what you would see on a diamond certificate.

GIA and IGI do not include statements of value on the stone; they only provide information on the quality, treatments, or sometimes origin of the stone.

Can you tell me more about reclaimed diamonds?

Reclaimed diamonds are simply vintage diamonds that have been removed from older jewellery and repurposed. We purchase these stones from a specialist supplier. Since reclaimed diamonds are in their second lives, tracing where they came from originally is not possible. The good news is that they have zero environmental impact due to utilising materials which already exist in a finished form.

Can you tell me more about cultivated diamonds?

A cultivate, or lab-grown diamond is a diamond which has been produced using laboratory techniques rather than mined from the Earth. They are identical to natural diamonds, i.e. they have the same physical, optical and chemical characteristics, including hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale.

Is purchasing cultivated diamonds ethical?

Cultivated diamonds have a number of characteristics that make them a better choice for those clients who are concerned by topics such as slavery, bonded labour or human trafficking as they are made in laboratories rather than being mined (often) in third world countries.

Are cultivated diamonds made of Moissanite?

No, cultivated diamonds are not moissanite. Natural Moissanite originally comes from space, created by a meteorite that fell to Earth. These crystals are composed of silicon carbide. Natural moissanite is incredibly rare, so moissanite available for purchase today is laboratory - created. Lab-created Moissanite is engineered to look similar to diamonds, but is physically quite different from a true diamond and is not as durable.
